The Kahlo House

The Kahlo House is an immersive interior installation in Los Angeles, conceived as an artist's sanctuary inspired by the life and musings of Frida Kahlo. Matter was asked to translate a film's spirit into a real room — a set and a sanctuary at once — for Stage 3 Media to document.

We layered color, texture, and object into a space that feels lived-in and deeply personal: walls dense with meaning, furniture chosen like characters, and light tuned to the mood of a painting. Every surface was designed to read on camera and reward a slow, in-person look alike.

The result is a one-room world — interior design as storytelling, where Matter's architecture and interiors practice steps fully into set and scenography.
